Momentum to integrate cultural heritage proposals following meeting with Conrad Neil Gatt
Momentum yesterday met with researcher and innovator Conrad Neil Gatt to discuss a comprehensive suite of proposals aimed at revitalising Malta’s approach to cultural tourism.
The meeting focused on Gatt’s detailed vision that leverages Malta’s unique history to attract high quality tourism around our precious cultural heritage. Momentum Leader Arnold Cassola and General Secretary Mark Camilleri Gambin expressed strong support for several key initiatives, particularly those focused on cultural trekking routes and the repurposing of historical underground infrastructure.
Among the standout proposals is the restoration of existing tunnels, namely the routes from Mtarfa to Saqqajja and from Argotti Gardens in Floriana to the Yellow Garage in Valletta. Momentum views these as vital components for a multimodal transport strategy, providing safe, sheltered, and efficient passage for cyclists and pedestrians away from traffic, pollution and the elements.
“What struck us most about Conrad’s work is how achievable and well structured these ideas are,” noted Momentum General Secretary Mark Camilleri Gambin. “Instead of chasing vanity projects, we should be looking at these tangible ideas. For example by opening these tunnels for cyclists and pedestrians, we start helping with transport issues while celebrating our subterranean heritage.”
The party also welcomed Gatt’s focus on cultural content for children and even his call for the public availability of subterranean maps. These ideas align closely with Momentum’s commitment to a more beautiful island that celebrates its heritage.
Following the productive session, Momentum confirmed that it will be adopting several of Gatt’s proposals into its official policies. The party extends its sincere thanks to Conrad Neil Gatt for his dedication and effective research, which serves as a blueprint for a more sustainable future.
