No SEC Exams on 1st June: Students Must Not Be Made to Pay the Price of Disruption
Momentum is receiving feedback from concerned parents expressing serious concern and disbelief at the decision to proceed with SEC examinations scheduled for the 1st of June, despite the foreseeable large-scale disruptions expected on that day due to celebrations following the announcement of the general elections result.
Students sitting for MATSEC and SEC exams are already under significant pressure. For many, these exams play a decisive role in shaping their academic and professional futures. It is therefore unacceptable that they may now also be forced to contend with traffic gridlock, road closures, and official motorcades which could delay or even prevent them from arriving at their examination centres on time.
Momentum calls on MATSEC and the Ministry for Education to immediately reconsider this decision and act in the best interests of students. The current plan risks placing students at a clear disadvantage through no fault of their own, undermining the principles of fairness and equal opportunity.
We ask:
- How will authorities ensure that every student can reach their exam on time?
- What guarantees are being provided to students who may be delayed?
- Why was such a foreseeable conflict not avoided in the first place?
The most reasonable and responsible course of action is clear: no SEC exams should be held on the 1st of June.
Momentum committee member Natasha Azzopardi said: “Students deserve certainty, fairness, and a level playing field, not added stress and logistical obstacles beyond their control. Momentum stands with students, parents, and educators in calling for immediate action to rectify this situation.”
