Momentum urges Courage and Action: 2026 will bring about a brighter future for all
As 2025 closes, Momentum issued a call to action for the year ahead, declaring 2026 as the time for Malta to embrace a real political alternative that really enhances the quality of life.
Mark Camilleri Gambin, General Secretary of Momentum, wished all Maltese citizens a Happy New Year, stating: “2026 presents an exciting opportunity for Momentum to guide Malta toward a prosperous and responsible future. We are bringing about a historic change to our political landscape with fresh energy, hope, and integrity.”
The party’s first year has validated a critical truth: part of the electorate is ready to move beyond the established duopoly. The party is prepared to tackle the systemic challenges facing Malta, from the “wasted vote” psychology to the institutional opacity that has plagued the nation.
Momentum leader Arnold Cassola, stated: Momentum’s vision for 2026 is a commitment to a brighter, fairer future, built on bold, essential reforms:
- A new era of transparency. Let us make public data an immediate right and permanently abolish the ministerial veto on information. We want to transform the FOI act into the revolutionary Open Malta act.
- The Maltese people deserve true meritocracy. All major key appointments should require a two-thirds majority, thus ensuring that the most competent and dedicated individuals, not those with connections, lead our nation’s vital institutions. Competence must always prevail on political connections and patronage.
- Protect our heritage. Let us safeguard national treasures like Manoel Island, Fort Tigne’, Fort Chambray, Comino and various other beautiful historical and natural heritage for future generations, while introducing weighted, sustainable scoring systems for all new construction. Our land is not for sale; it is to be cherished.
- Fairness for all. Let us elevate the minimum wage to a truly decent living wage, ensuring that affordability and dignity are universal rights, not special privileges reserved for the connected few. Justice and prosperity belong to every citizen. Let us put into practice what our constitution decrees.
Camilleri Gambin concluded by addressing the main challenge ahead: “Roughly one-third of Malta’s electorate feels politically orphaned by the major parties. That is a substantial constituency and more than enough to change everything, if only we found the courage to act on our convictions rather than our fears. A vote for what you actually believe in can never be a wasted vote.”
Momentum urges all citizens to engage with its growing movement by volunteering, donating, and attending Vision Circles.
