Momentum submits FOI request to Transport Malta on permits issued for political street banners

Momentum has submitted a formal Freedom of Information request to Transport Malta seeking full records on permits issued to political parties to set up banners along Malta’s roads over the last 5 years. The request focuses on permits granted to political parties for their events, locations, and dates for which banners were issued.

Specifically, the FOI request asks Transport Malta to provide a complete list of all permits issued to political parties, details for each permit, including the event or activity promoted, the locations of the banners, and the start and end dates, and a list of any applications from political parties that were refused and the reasons for refusal.

Mark Camilleri Gambin, General Secretary of Momentum, commented: “This FOI request is about transparency. For a healthy democracy, it’s important that we’re open and fair about how our public spaces are used. When every political party has a fair chance to be seen, it makes our communities stronger and helps people trust in our political system. Being open and treating everyone equally is key for our country to move forward.”

Momentum hopes that the release of this information will shed light on Transport Malta’s decision-making processes and promote fairness in the allocation of temporary advertising space.
