Momentum seeks Data Commissioner’s intervention after Transport Ministry fails to meet Marsaskala FOI deadline
Momentum, a political party committed to transparency and good governance, today announced it has been forced to escalate an urgent FOI request to the Office of the Information and Data Protection Commissioner after the Ministry for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works failed to provide a timely response.
The FOI request, which relates to the records concerning the Marsaskala regeneration project, including details on funding, fast ferry specifications, traffic, and environmental impact studies, had its legal deadline for a response elapse on Monday 15th December.
Mark Camilleri Gambin, General Secretary of Momentum, confirmed that the party has written to the IDPC following the authority’s non-compliance. In a prompt and appreciated response, the Commissioner’s office has acknowledged the issue and assured Momentum that it has contacted the Public Authority requesting an immediate reply, with a commitment to proceed with enforcement action if necessary.
“It is deeply frustrating that the authority has once again failed in its legal duty to be transparent,” said Mark Camilleri Gambin, General Secretary of Momentum. “We appreciate the swift action taken by the Office of the Information and Data Protection Commissioner. Their prompt assurance to look into the matter is a vital safety net for citizens seeking accountability.”
Momentum calls on the Ministry for Transport, Infrastructure and Public Works to urgently provide the requested information, which is already overdue.
