Momentum publishes Vision Circle findings on the party’s future

Members call for stronger organisation, broader representation and a greater focus on practical solutions. Momentum has published the conclusions of a Vision Circle held on 27 June 2026 to assess the party’s performance in the general election and discuss its future direction.

The feedback underscores widespread public appreciation for Momentum’s unwavering integrity, firm anti-corruption standards, independence from corporate developers, and member-funded grassroots ethos.

Natasha Azzopardi, Momentum Committee Member, said, “This is highly relevant for Malta’s present situation. Political parties must be free from the influence of big businesses. We noted that during the last election campaign, while Momentum was highlighting issues of the rule of law and good governance, PN and PL did not want to discuss these topics to look ‘positive’. We believe that for Malta to move forward, we need a profound discussion about how political parties are financed and influenced”

The party acknowledges several areas requiring strategic focus: broadening its leadership visibility, evolving its public image from a campaigning movement into a parliament-ready political alternative, and continuing to navigate the structural hurdles of Malta’s established duopoly.

The Vision Circle concluded that Momentum must now focus on building a broader and stronger organisation, developing more candidates and policy spokespeople, and moving from predominantly reactive criticism towards practical, solution-based politics.

Azzopardi noted, “Participants also identified issues including public transport, planning and heritage, housing affordability, healthcare access, public spaces, inclusion and corruption as priorities for the party’s future manifesto.”

The discussion also called for a stronger grassroots presence, scouting for potential candidates, with Local Council and European Parliament elections identified as important opportunities to build Momentum’s presence in communities, alongside greater engagement with young people and Malta’s international and expatriate communities.

The Vision Circle further recommended earlier candidate recruitment and training, stronger policy portfolios, improved digital communication and more community-based activities throughout the electoral cycle.

Azzopardi said, “This exercise was intended to be an honest assessment of both our successes and shortcomings. Momentum’s independence and integrity are our greatest strengths, but we know that they are not enough on their own. We need to build a stronger organisation, broaden our representation and offer credible solutions.”

Azzopardi concluded, “Now is the time for people who want to see real change happening in Malta, to join us. Things can only change if there is real political will coming from sincere citizens.”
