Momentum policy advisor meets with JPP Vice President in Madeira to discuss island challenges and European strategy
Momentum’s Policy Advisor Karl Anthony Borg, had a meeting with Rafael F. Nunes, Vice President of the Legislative Assembly of Madeira and a regional MP for Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP).
Both Momentum and JPP are members of the European Democratic Party (EDP) and JPP currently holds 11 seats in Madeira’s Legislative Assembly, making it the largest opposition party in the regional parliament. Their success story is something that Momentum aims to replicate in Malta’s political landscape.
“As islands facing similar challenges, Malta and Madeira have much to learn from each other,” said Borg. “JPP has shown that smaller parties committed to transparency and good governance can achieve real political influence when they prioritise community engagement.”
The meeting focused on issues such as accessing EU funding for economic and social development, improving transport links to overcome geographical disadvantage, and coordinating strategies to amplify regional voices within European institutions through the EDP framework.
The meeting reflects Momentum’s strategic approach to learning from successful sister parties across Europe. Through the EDP network, the party is building relationships that translate political contacts into concrete policy knowledge and solutions for Malta’s citizens.
Momentum joined the European Democratic Party in May 2025, with Secretary General Mark Camilleri Gambin subsequently elected as EDP Deputy Secretary General in November 2025, providing the party with direct access to European policy networks and expertise.
