Fortina scandal: The 10 pages that started it all

Momentum draws the public’s attention back to the Fortina deal, a scandal rooted in deception, hidden documents, and political protection for those who profited.
When asked about the hidden valuation that priced the Sliema land at double the amount actually paid by developers, former Lands Minister Ian Borg told Times of Malta he “did not know” such a document existed.
Really? Momentum’s Arnold Cassola knew about this as early as 2021 and filed a ten-page detailed report to the Auditor General. How is it possible that a sitting minister, responsible for lands, knew nothing? If this is true, then it reveals a shocking level of incompetence and negligence in governance.
Borg also claimed: “We MPs are not there to protect those who hid the documents from the minister, the parliamentary secretary, and parliament.”
Yet, in practice, this is exactly what has happened.
Let us be clear: shifting the blame only onto the late Lino Farrugia Sacco and onto former Lands Authority CEO is not enough. The real political masterminds who pushed for this deal, and who kept documents hidden, were Joseph Muscat and Keith Schembri, both of whom had no business negotiating with the Zammit Tabonas. Yet, they did so because the Zammit Tabona family has long been a major financier of the Labour Party.
Momentum demands that Minister Ian Borg stop playing the innocent bystander. Do your job. Investigate properly and without fear or favour. And do not leave out Joseph Muscat and Keith Schembri from this investigation.
The Fortina deal was rotten from the very start. Momentum will not let the Maltese public forget who profited, who protected them, and who allowed the abuse to happen.
