Momentum announces 14 candidatures on all districts for the 2026 General Election

Momentum today announced its slate of 7 candidates who will contest the upcoming general election across all thirteen electoral districts.

The seven candidates are a team of people, including professionals from diverse backgrounds, united by a shared commitment to good governance, environmental protection, and economic justice.

Momentum will be represented in every district as follows:

  • District 1 and 6
    • Billy McBeeValletta community activist and founder of Residenti Beltin, known for campaigning against the privatisation of public spaces.
  • District 2 and 8
    • Dr. Matthew AgiusGeophysicist and academic at the University of Malta, served different roles in various NGOs, as well as part of  Momentum’s Executive.
  • District 3 and 11
    • Mark Camilleri GambinSoftware Engineer, Tech CEO, Secretary General of Momentum, and Deputy Secretary General of the European Democratic Party.
  • District 4and 5
    • Dr Alastair Farrugia Mathematician, Software Developer, certified focusing trainer, volunteer with various NGOs.
  • District 7 and 10
    • Prof Pierre Schembri-WismayerUniversity of Malta medical researcher specialising in cancer, stem cells and biomechanics, and lead inventor of the Malta Hip. 
  • District 9 and 10
    • Prof Arnold CassolaProfessor and Senior Fellow at the University of Malta and Chairperson of Momentum. Former Secretary-General of the European Green Party.
  • District 12 and 13
    • Carmel AsciakRetired banker after a 40-year career and Treasurer of Momentum. 

Prof Arnold Cassola, Chairperson of Momentum, said: “Roughly one third of Malta’s electorate feels politically orphaned. They are tired of choosing between two parties that have taken turns running this country into the ground while rewarding their own. Our candidates are not career politicians. They are medical doctors, scientists, entrepreneurs, academics and professionals who have stepped forward because they believe Malta deserves better. This election, we are offering voters a Bidla ta’ Vera – a real change, not only a change of colour. A vote for Momentum is a vote for the Malta you actually want to live in. A Malta characterised by beauty and a just and caring society”
