The judiciary should itself elect the Chief Justice from amongst its members
Today, Robert Abela will table an anti-deadlock mechanism in appointments concerning the Chief Justice.
Basically, this will mean that when government and opposition disagree on a post holder the government of the day will impose its choice.
This is not democracy. This is autocratic imposition.
Momentum leader, Arnold Cassola, said: “Do we want to go back to the past, when the minister appointed his own brother as judge in Strasbourg? Malta does not need such autocratic behaviour.
Momentum is putting forward a common sense proposal: It is time that judges and magistrates start electing the Chief Judge from amongst themselves Change the law now.”.
