Momentum declares its full support for MEPs fighting to obtain compensation for Storm Harry damages.

Momentum stands together with the PL and PN Maltese MEPs who today have criticised the eligibility criteria of the European Solidarity Fund, which make it difficult for Malta to apply for help following Storm Harry.

Storm Harry caused much damage to Malta, Portugal, southern Italy and Greece.

The European Solidarity Fund is a financial instrument designed to support member states that suffered damage following major natural disasters. Yet EU bureaucracy is making it difficult for Malta because of the small size of our nation.

Momentum Leader Arnold Cassola stated: “The EU authorities should stop pushing a ‘one size fits all’ philosophy. The fact that a country like Malta is small should not make it more difficult to obtain EU compensation for the millions of euro damages suffered by honest citizens and businesses.

The only condition imposed should be that only legally operating businesses should be compensated. These deserve to be compensated sooner rather than later. Unlike the obscene populistic proposal by the Maltese Prime Minister,  businesses that have been continuously flouting the law must not be compensated. EU help is needed and should go exclusively to honest law abiding Maltese residents and businesses”.

There is hope, you can help!
