I am an academic and a politician, the author/editor of over forty books on the history, literature, language and culture of Malta, the historical-literary relationship between Malta and Italy, and books on Maltese migration in the Mediterranean in the 19th century and on Green politics in Malta and Europe. My books have been published in Malta, France, Italy, Spain, Russia and Ukraine. I am the author of over a hundred academic papers in various countries and I have contributed hundreds of articles to newspapers in various parts of the world.
I was co-founder of Alternattiva Demokratika in 1989, elected Local Councillor in Swieqi (1994-1996), Secretary General of the European Green Party in Brussels (1999-2006), Member of the Italian Parliament in Rome (2006-2008) and Chairperson of Alternattiva Demokratika (2008-2009; 2013-2017). At the last European Parliament elections, after Metsola and Agius Saliba, I was the third most voted candidate.
